"God, the nations have invaded Your inheritance; They have defiled Your holy temple; They have laid Jerusalem in ruins." Psalm 79:1 NASB
Lord Jesus, We are not used to adversity, and it shocks us. These are challenging times for us. But we also acknowledge that trouble might be the only thing that will succeed in arousing our passion for your name. You are great. You make a way through the sea and a path through the mighty waters (Isaiah 43:16). Cause us to remember the old stories from the scriptures that we have forgotten to make our own. Cause us to identify with the children of Israel being led out of slavery and into the promised land. It was scary, risky, and impossible, but You did it. Yours, O Jesus, is the way of salvation. Forgive us for leaning on our own understanding and for trusting in our works and our fine buildings but failing to accomplish Your will. Forgive us for wasting so much time.
"Do not remember the iniquities of our forefathers against us; Let Your compassion come quickly to meet us, For we are brought very low. Help us, O God of our salvation, for the glory of Your name; And deliver us and forgive our sins for Your name's sake. Why should the nations say, "Where is their God?" Psalm 79:8-10 NASB
